If we could see the sheer volume of electromagnetic fields passing through our everyday environments, it would stagger most of us. In fact, we would see just how accurate the term ‘electrosmog’ truly is.

With all our wireless signals coming and going, we are starting to run out of space, or bandwidth, for our demanding data needs. 5G has been proposed as the solution.

Many of our cellphones and WiFi routers use similar frequencies which is causing interference to become more common and more problematic. Add to the equation our insatiable appetite for scorching-fast internet speeds, and the benefits of 5G start to have significant appeal.

While 5G offers super fast browsing and transfer of data from your smart phone, is there a downside? Do the dangers of 5G present unknown potential risks?

What Does 5G Mean?

First of all, lets address the question of what 5G wireless actually is. Essentially, 5G wireless taps into a frequency bandwidth that is all but untouched thus far. Utilizing what are known as millimeter waves (MMW’s) that are located within the 30-300 GHz range has opened up entirely new bandwidth, which is an essential component of fast data transfers.

With reports of 10 Gigabits per second, 5G doesn’t fail to deliver on fast download speeds. Businesses that rely on heavy data use could get a big boost in productivity. But this technology does have it’s weak points and risks.

The high frequency millimeter waves of 5G can only travel short distances, and they can also be absorbed easily by objects that obstruct their travel. In order to keep the data moving at break-neck speeds, 5G networking requires many small cellular antennas placed much closer together than we are used to seeing today.

So the final picture would look very different than the widespread, towering wireless antennas of today. 5G antennas would be small, and would be placed closer together, most likely on structures like telephone poles.

WiFi Routers Are Miniature 5G Cell Towers

There’s already a source of RF radiation in your home; it’s your WiFi router. This essentially acts as a mini 5G cell tower in your own home. As long as it’s turned on and you’re using the WiFi signal in your home, it’s emitting RF radiation at full power for the entire duration that it’s active. However, it’s not just WiFi routers in your home that you should be concerned about.

When using WiFi in public spaces, those routers are designed specifically to be more powerful or give more coverage in an area. That’s why you might see multiple WiFi routers in a single location to give more network coverage. This means that you could be affected by multiple high-level sources of RF radiation even when you’re in an office or public area. Combined with the RF radiation from a full-sized 5G cell tower, it could pose a real threat to all living organisms in its range.

These routers emit at two different frequency bands; 5 GHz and the older 2.4 GHz. Most routers support both and in some cases can be manually enabled or disabled. Newer 5G WiFi routers can also support the use of 60 GHz WiFi which provides more high-speed throughout, but could also be more dangerous. In comparison, the frequencies used by a microwave to cook food are only at 2.45 GHz.

One solution to protect yourself from RF radiation from your WiFi router is to reduce your reliance on WiFi in general. For instance, hard wiring your network devices with ethernet cables (preferably low-EMF Ethernet cables) is a much better solution since you can disable the WiFi capabilities of your router. However, it’s worth mentioning that ethernet solutions that go through the mains are not the same as directly connecting your router and the device. This is because it causes your wiring to emit carcinogenic dirty electricity, essentially another form of harmful EMF radiation.

The Next Network Generation: 5G

Lets make a few comparisons to better understand what is being proposed with 5G wireless communications. If you look over the current landscape of 4G wireless telecommunications, there are a few notable differences.

First of all, when looking at 4G antennas it is worth noting that they emit bursts of radio frequency radiation (RFR) at levels much higher than 5G cell towers would.

Remember, 4G can travel much longer distances than 5G, but it requires high levels of RFR emission to do so. 5G antennas would emit lower levels of RFR, but they would need to be everywhere in order to provide reliable service.

But this also presents issues for those of us who seek to protect ourselves from unnecessary EMF exposure. Along with new bandwidth, 5G would make electrosmog nearly inescapable for many.

Secondly, 5G uses a higher frequency, and potentially more damaging form of electromagnetic radiation.

Whereas 4G radiation has been studied extensively by reputable organizations such as the World Health Organization, the dangers of 5G millimeter waves have yet to be fully understood. Historically, our track record surrounding new radiation technology has not exhibited a consistent pattern of safe behavior, to say the least.

Thirdly, 5G is reported to be at least 50x faster than 4G – but do the risks outweigh the rewards?

Current 4G wireless telecommunication systems feature a 50 millisecond delay, while 5G communications will offer nearly seamless communication with a mere 1 millisecond delay. Even though that increase in speed is nearly imperceptible to the average human, it will inevitably add up to mean faster overall data transfer. So what are the potential downsides?

Cellphone Radiation Effects

In 2011, The International Agency for Research on Cancer put the spotlight on mobile phone electromagnetic fields, and specifically found that mobile phones could cause specific forms of brain tumors known as gliomas. This branch of the World Health Organization also classified RFR as a potential 2B carcinogen.

The next year in 2012, the Department of Neurosurgery at the Keck School of Medicine authored a study on malignant brain tumors that showed an increase in brain tumors near to where people hold their cellphone. Notably, cases of diagnosed glioma decreased in that same study, which left direct causation yet to be found.

Other studies documented a litany of health risks including a threefold increase in glioma diagnoses, decreased melatonin production, insomnia, disruption of cellular metabolism, DNA breaks and cancers, to name a few. But 5G presents it’s own issues due to the unique frequency ranges utilized by 5G technology.

5G Radiation Dangers

The unique dangers of 5G radiation have not been tested in the same large-scale that we have already experienced with 4G. However, we do have some historical research on millimeter waves that we can reference to get a better picture of the risks associated with the frequency bandwidth utilized by 5G technology.

  • Effects on the skin – Research thus far indicates that the most significant risk associated with MMW’s are associated with the skin. The sweat ducts in the human body are particularly sensitive to millimeter waves and become more conductive to stimuli when exposed to MMW’s. It’s been reported that up to 90% of millimeter waves are absorbed by the epidermis and dermis, and can cause physical pain in some cases.
  • Effects on the eyes – One of the most radio-sensitive tissues in the human body is the lens of the eye. The connection between cataracts and radiation exposure has been a long-known danger. Millimeter waves have been shown to cause cataracts in lab rats, and The Medical Research Institute of Kanazawa Medical University found MMW’s to cause thermal injuries to the eye.
  • Effects on immune system – Russian studies on the effects of low-intensity millimeter waves found a suppressive effect on the overall immune system of healthy mice.
  • Effects on the heart – Another Russian study found impacts on heart rate variability from the very frequency range 5G proposes to use. Another Russian study documented similar heart rate changes in exposing frog’s skin to MMW’s.

Where Is 5G On The Electromagnetic Spectrum

5G, for the most part, is a term that many cellular companies are throwing around to generate hype. It makes sense considering that we’ve gone from 3G to 4G, so now we’re looking towards the next iteration that promises even greater speeds. But what exactly is 5G?

5G is a technology that uses most of the microwave portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. This means the waves are much shorter in length and are more easily obstructed by random objects, but can also support much more data. This is why 5G cell towers need to be built closer together in order to provide much better coverage. It’s also why they can’t be used very effectively indoors, because the shorter waves are blocked by virtually everything. But where does it sit on the electromagnetic spectrum?

On the electromagnetic spectrum, you have radio waves at the lower end and gamma rays at the higher end. The higher the frequency, the more dangerous it is to living organisms. Radio waves are between 3 kHz (0.000003 GHz) to about 1 GHz, whereas microwaves go from 1 GHz to 300 GHz.

In comparison, 5G isn’t clearly defined as each carrier uses a different band.

  • T-Mobile uses low-band 600 MHz
  • Verizon uses 27 GHz and 39 GHz
  • AT&T will be using millimeter wave spectrum, similar to Verizon
  • Sprint claims to have more spectrums than other carriers at 800 MHz, 1.9 GHz and 2.5 GHz

In short, given that higher frequencies must be used in order to achieve faster speeds, “true” 5G will typically use between 24 GHz and 300 GHz. Anything lower will generally not be much faster than existing 4G connections which are currently between 1 GHz and 6 GHz.

5G’s “Non- Ionizing” Radiation

One of the most common arguments for 5G is that it’s considered “non-ionizing” radiation. This is generally the narrative that government and technology websites will follow. Unfortunately, many of these companies are pushing for 5G technology to be implemented by avoiding the risks associated and skewing information to fit their narrative.

The reality is that there are countless studies that show the massive health risks associated with “non-ionizing” RF radiation. These studies are incredibly easy to find and will give correct and unbiased information regarding the dangers of 5G cell towers and the radiation they emit.

How Dangerous Is 5G Radiation?

As mentioned before, 5G frequencies will likely be defined as being between 24 GHz and 300 GHz, despite some companies such as Sprint offering 5G services on lower frequencies like 1.9 GHz and 2.5 GHz.

In comparison, a microwave can cook your food using the 2.45 GHz frequency. This should be a clear indication of the potential damage that 5G cell towers can do with the radiation that they emit.

To give another example, the US Military’s Microwave crowd control weapon, known as the Active Denial System, is a weapon designed to disperse crowds by heating up people’s skin using a 95 GHz 5G frequency. Considering that 5G will be between 24 GHz and 300 GHz, this US Military weapon is still much lower than the proposed frequency that some 5G devices may use. While the power of the weapon is much higher, it still utilizes a frequency within the 5G range.

5G Crowd Control? – The Active Denial System

One of the more outlandish facts surrounding 5G is that the same frequencies used in 5G technology have been hotly-researched by leading defense agencies around the world for the purposes of crowd control. The U.S. Department of Defense has researched MMW’s for crowd control for 15 years, and currently uses a “focused beam of millimeter waves at a frequency of 95 gigahertz” in their Active Denial System. This system causes an intense burning sensation for anyone unlucky enough to be exposed to the beam. Documented injuries include blistering and second degree burns.

5G Letters From 180 Scientists and Doctors

An article on EhTrust.org titled “Letters From Scientists on the Health Risk of 5G” includes letters from over 180 different scientists and doctors around the world. The letters call for a halt on the rollout of 5G cellular networks due to the uncertainty and danger they pose. These letters aren’t just hearsay–they are based on peer-reviewed scientific studies that even cover the risks of 3G and 4G RF radiation in addition to 5G radiation.

The article also includes a case study of a 36-year old man who developed neck cancer as a result of using his cellphone for 20 years. The man testifies in an attempt to halt 5G deployment in California. This is just one of many studies that have been included in the 180 letters, and we urge you to read the pleas from these certified professionals that express concerns with the dangers involved with 5G networks.

What You Can Do About 5G Dangers

  • First, it is important to get some understanding about radiation – it will greatly help your decisions when they are based on sound reasoning. There is a lot of fear and paranoia surrounding EMF’s, but anxiety and panic won’t provide the reasoned results you need.

  • Third, remember the trifecta of radiation protection: time, distance, and shielding.

Kids are naturally more vulnerable to the effects of radiation due to a number of physical factors including more rapid growth and cellular division.

2. Distance yourself and your loved one’s from sources of radiation, such as cellphones, tablets, and other Wifi and wireless devices. If it is unrealistic to turn these devices off, distance is another recommended practice. Take the laptop off your lap, and use tablets and cellphones from a distance whenever possible.

Reducing Radiation In Your Home

In order to reduce your exposure to radiation in your home, it’s possible to limit the amount of time you spend on your smartphone and also use radiation-blocking router guards if you have to use a WiFi connection in your home. You can also turn off your WiFi router when it’s not in use and also make sure that you never sleep close to your phone when it has its WiFi-enabled. You could simply switch it to airplane mode to disable the WiFi, but it’s a good practice not to sleep with your phone or other WiFi-enabled devices near you.

By reducing your risk of radiation, you can greatly reduce your chances of developing adverse health conditions and prolong a long and happy life.

Why Are Cell Companies Pushing 5G?

5G is an advanced technology that will allow people to be even more connected to the internet than they already are. Downloading movies, making video calls and other high-bandwidth tasks will be greatly improved with the use of 5G networks. With theoretical speeds that are 100 times that of 4G, it’s easy to see how popular 5G speeds will be.

With almost no delays in such demanding network tasks, 5G is being pushed as the next big thing in mobile technology. This generates more profits and more advertising power for cellular companies and it also delivers a service that many civilians want. Unfortunately, rushed attempts to push for new technologies can result in a negative impact on our health and we need to establish the dangers of 5G before we’re surrounded by 5G cell towers.

The Future of 5G

With companies already building the infrastructure needed to roll out 5G by this year, the future is already here. Some have likened the global shift to 5G to the development of the internet. Whereas the internet paved the way for global connectivity, 5G will have the power to bring the world even closer together. But is it worth the health risks involved? With so much more research and study required before we can comfortably answer that question, stalling the release of 5G seems to be the best course of action for the sake of our own health.
